Above all, we want to reach people who like to experiment.
In the unusual education and encounter week, in the widely varied program of workshops, language courses, talks and city tours, you have the possibility to become part of a familiar educational community meeting and growing for 8 years. Every year the Summer Academy takes place in a different location in Europe. This year you have the opportunity to encounter people and the culture not only of Tuscany but also from Berlin, Vienna, Amsterdam, Rimini, Rome ....
The events are conducted in the mother tongue of the individual instructors – Italian, German English or Dutch– and, where possible, in one or two other languages. Participants from different countries will come together and experience the variety of the academy through a) the mini-courses in the afternoon (abridged version of the Basic Course at the morning) a) the project day (a hole day off collaboration of all courses) and c) the excursion day.
This year you have the possibility to experience not only the hospitality, atmosphere, nature, cooking typical of a small village in Tuscany.
With the help of the National Diaries Archive in Pieve Santo Stefano we will have the possibility to get to know people from the region, through interviews and in words, pictures and photos. We will have access to some of the 6,000 life stories of people collected in the Archive. For example, we will study the linen cloth, on which Clelia Marchi wrote down and painted her life story, as well as other impressive personal documents of life in the past and in the present. Through these contacts and the creative use of parts of these life stories, we want to offer lively and unusual ways to learn and practice foreign languages, paintin, drawing, photography, creative and autobiographical writing ...

After all, these rough edges, our lifestory with all the successes and failures, are the source of inspiration and play material. They are our fortune! We concentrate on being a clown, especially with the way the clown explores a new environment. For one week the clowns will be present in the town of Pieve Santo Stefano. A large part of the course will take place in the middle of the town. The seminar is directed to people who want to discover a new town, and their own humour. It's not about learning gags or tricks, but about exploring our own comical aspects, so to speak,in the depth of our soul and give the man expression while exploring a new culture therefore,to explore inner and outer life.

The main wealth of Pieve Santo Stefano are
- the possibility of contact with people from Pieve (also through the mediation of the Journal Archive) and of access to a part of the 6000 life stories, collected in the Archive. (see the descrition of the Archive in English)
- The possibility for the participants to get better in contact and in exchange with each other
In Pieve Santo Stefano the participants will sure enjoi the nature, the cookin, the hospitality expected in a small village of Tuscany. But Pieve Santo Stefan is not a small Florence or Siena. What does it mean?
The village was destroyed in the last days of the 2th World War2, to 90%. After the war has been rebuilt with a similar plan, but with houses certainly not as nice as the old ones. The village "has lost its architectural personality". However there are a nice and comfortable old city (three small squares, small streets, the place of the marked) the Praetorian Palace (a building of the Renaissance, in the palace we will partially work) as well as other old and nice buildings.
One can walking at the river (Tiber), in the village, barely disturbed by traffic. From Pieve one can also walk in an beautiful nature of the surrounding mountains. The old monastery, where we will have classrooms and accommodation, although battered (it is now used as accommodation for the students of the local agricultural school) has a lot of the initial fascination.
